With Axis installed on top of your Firefox browser you have easy access to a means of efficiently and rapidly searching the web. Axis will present you with real time results as you type them in the search box, lets you add webpages to a list of favorites, and it lets you mark the webpages you want to read later. And since it’s available as a standalone iOS app as well, you can read that webpage later on your iPad or iPhone.

The Axis plug-in is only 192KB in size. It will take little time to get the plug-in and install it on your Firefox browser. As mentioned above, Axis is also available as a standalone app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It must be mentioned that the Axis plug-in is also available for Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer. When you’re done installing Axis, you will be presented with a quick tutorial.

Axis is presented as a small, black search box in the bottom left hand corner of Firefox’s interface. Put the mouse over the box and it will expand horizontally. Click the search box and it will expand vertically, presenting you with a list of Trending Searches and a list of results related to them. Type in something into the search box and you will be presented with results in real-time, as you type along. These results are presented as big thumbnails spanning the length of the Axis application. Click on a search result and you will be taken to that webpage.

If you sign into your Yahoo! account, you can add webpages to the Favorites or to the Read Later list. You can do so by clicking the Login button from the right hand side. You can add webpages to the Favorites list by clicking the button that looks like a star. And you can view your list of Favorites by clicking the Home button.

On Axis’s personalized homepage you will see your list of Favorites, your list of Read Later webpages, and links to continue your Axis experience on your iPhone or tablet, and a link to learn more about Axis.

No matter where your browsing session takes you, Axis is always right there by your side. Access it to quickly look up something, or to conveniently bookmark a webpage. You can have access to that webpage on your iOS-powered device, should you decide to get the standalone Axis app.

Axis is Yahoo!’s way of providing you with a faster, smarter search experience. It takes a visual approach as it instantly provides answers to your queries.

Pros

Axis is available as a plug-in for Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Internet Explorer. It features a dark-themed, good looking interface. Presents you with instant answers and visual search previews. Sign in to be able to add webpages to a Favorites and a Read Later list. You can arrange items and remove items from those lists. Axis is freeware. It is also available as a standalone iOS app.

Cons

Axis on Chrome was faster than on Firefox. Still, it was a lot better than on Internet Explorer.
